via complex surgery A specialized medical team at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital in Holy Karbala performed a complex surgical operation to remove a stone in the kidney of a 60-year-old patient who came from Wasit Governorate.
Dr. Amir Al-Araji, a urology specialist, who performed the operation, said, “The patient had been suffering from continuous kidney pain for more than two years, despite repeated doctor visits and treatments.”
He explained that the patient “suffers from an ectopic kidney in the pelvis with a twist in its anatomical position, as his kidney was blocked by a 2.5 cm stone.”
Dr. Al-Araji added, “Removing this stone using the usual methods was not possible, as extracting a stone of this size with a nephroscope is very difficult due to the abnormal position of the kidney and its proximity to the aorta and inferior vena cava.”
The urology specialist continued, “The decision was made to extract this stone using laparoscopy. The kidney pelvis was opened laparoscopically, the stone was extracted, and then the kidney pelvis was closed.”
He concluded by saying: “The surgical team consisted of Dr. Amir Al-Araji, Dr. Ali Badan Mohsen, Dr. Zuhair Saleh, and the anesthesiologist Dr. Zaid Al-Moussawi. The surgery was crowned with success and ended the suffering of the Wasti man, praise be to God.”
