Medical team at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital successfully saved the life of a woman from death after she inhaled toxic fumes due to a fire, causing her to lose consciousness completely, necessitating immediate care in the intensive care unit.
Dr. Maytham Al-Maamouri, specialized in Respiratory and Interventional Pulmonology at our hospital, stated that “the patient suffered from burns in the trachea and damage to the lining of the bronchi and airways due to the fire incident.”
He adds: “The obstruction of the bronchial tubes in the patient was a result of the accumulation of toxic carbon materials, which contributed to the deterioration of her condition. She was in a state of complete unconsciousness with rapid heart rate and breathing.”
The doctor confirms that “With the help of our medical team consisting of anesthesiologist and intensive care specialist, Dr. Mohannad Mohammed Ridha, and anesthesia assistant Kadhem Jawad, along with several nurses, a lung lavage procedure was performed using a flexible bronchoscope. The lungs were cleaned, and toxic gas residues were removed in two stages over the course of three days.”
