A specialized medical team succeeded in treating a 74-year-old patient who was suffering from urinary tract obstruction and chronic diseases that increased the risk of the surgery, but Imam al-Hujjah Hospital formed a medical committee to treat the condition.

The head of the medical team, Dr. Haider Al-Qadi, kidney, urinary tract and infertility surgery specialist explained: “The hospital received the patient who was suffering from an obstruction in the urethra and he was seeking temporary urinary diversion.”

“After conducting laboratory and x-ray tests of the urethra and bladder, it was found that there was a complete obstruction in the urethra and the patient needed an operation to open the obstruction, but the difficulty lies in his health condition and being on medications that prevent clotting, which makes performing the operation almost impossible.”

“The hospital formed a specialized committee that included a cardiologist, a thoracic and vascular surgeon, and an anesthesiologist, and it was agreed to replace the anticoagulant medications with ones suitable for the type of anesthesia required. The patient was given regional anesthesia, which is limited to the affected part only and with the least complications.”

“Praise be to Allah, the blockage was opened and the patient was discharged in good health. All of this would not have been possible without the distinguished efforts of the medical staff, the efficient operating staff, and the modern medical equipment in the surgical theaters at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital.”

Anesthesiologist: Dr. Abdul Amir Nouri
