Scientific Lecture: IHH Warns Against Formula Feeding and Pacifiers

IHH warned against the dangers of formula feeding and pacifiers for children due to their potential to cause diseases such as diarrhea, gastrointestinal infections, and persistent contamination. Instead, we highlighted the most important benefits of breastfeeding for both the mother and the child.

This came during a scientific lecture delivered by Dr. Mohammed Abd Al-Redha Abu Taheen, the main consultant for breastfeeding at Karbala Teaching Children’s Hospital. The lecture was titled “Mother’s Milk is Both Spiritual and Physical Nourishment… Breastfeeding Completes Motherhood” and took place in the lecture hall of IHH, with the presence of several specialists and interested individuals.

The lecture Was opened by Dr. Abu Taheen with the statement that “Mother’s milk is both spiritual and physical nourishment”. He also discussed the importance of mother’s milk for breastfeeding infants, especially during the first hour of the newborn’s life.

He also explained that “The importance of mother’s milk for the fetus lies in its content of nutritional elements in appropriate quantities and qualities for the child’s growth and brain development”.

The doctor further explained the benefits of breastfeeding for both the mother and her newborn. These include the emotional bond between the mother and her child, the healthy physical and mental growth of children, a reduction in childhood illnesses and deaths, and other important matters.

The doctor also advised restraining from “Giving the child formula milk and pacifiers due to the risks they pose to the child’s life, including diarrhea, gastrointestinal infections, persistent contamination, frequent infections, and other diseases”.

The doctor emphasized the importance of feeding the child with the mother’s milk from the first hour of birth, along with explaining the proper positions for the child to take the milk correctly.

And to conclude the lecture, the specialist took some time to answer the questions of the attendants. He was then presented with a certificate of appreciation by the medical advisor, Dr. Mahdi Abdul Sahib.
