A 19-year-old young man was involved in a horrific traffic accident that caused him serious injuries to his right leg, which may result in complications leading to “amputation” or osteoarthritis. However, the doctors of Imam al-Hujjah Hospital prevented this by performing several surgical operations to save the young man’s life.
Dr. Haider Dhaher, an orthopedic specialist at Imam al-Hujjah Hospital, said:

“The young man was brought to our hospital after he was involved in a traffic accident that caused him a serious injury to his right leg.”

He explains:

“The details of the injury included a comminuted fracture with tissue loss in the leg, which required amputation of the foot as a normal procedure.”

Dr. Dhaher adds:

“The situation for us at Imam al-Hujjah Hospital was a great challenge, especially after we decided not to amputate the foot and do everything necessary to save the patient.”

The orthopedic and traumatology specialist explained:

“We performed 3 surgeries on the patient to preserve the leg, which included cleaning and stabilizing the fractures and wounds. Seven days after the first operation, the wounds were cleaned, then after 21 days, a skin grafting operation was performed on him with the participation of the plastic surgery specialist at Imam al-Hujjah Hospital, Dr. Alaa Al-Sharifi.

He confirmed that

“The patient has now made a complete recovery in terms of wounds, but the fractures are in the process of healing.”
