Obstetrician-gynecologist Sundus Karam, reported that she has recently received a case of a woman in her 40s suffering from bleeding, menstrual irregularities, and urinary incontinence, in addition to a polyp in the lining of her uterus. The patient requested to undergo all surgical procedures at the same time due to family-related circumstances. This is challenging because it requires prolonged anesthesia. Plastic or repair surgery usually takes two hours. All tests were done to ensure the safety of the patient and her readiness for prolonged anesthesia. In the first part, we removed the adenoids with curettage to make sure that there were no malignant diseases. A deep ulcer in the patient’s cervix was causing her a lot of pain despite treatment, so it was cauterized. Dr. Sundus adds: “We treated the woman’s cystocele and urinary incontinence, and we got rid of the fibrotic deformation resulting from old stitches. She returned to her pre-marriage state. The surgery lasted 3 hours and the patient was discharged in good health. Dr. Sundus Karam gave the following advice to women in their 40s:
1- Do not neglect your reproductive health, which is concerned with the uterus, ovaries, and vagina, especially after the age of 40, because hormones change, and the possibility of malignant diseases and recurring infections increases.
2- Do not neglect inflammation, because it leads to ulcers. You must follow up and find out the cause. It may be a strong germ or virus that could put you at risk of cancer.
3- You and your husband must commit to taking your medicines, because if you take treatment and he doesn’t, the infection will come back after intercourse.
