The Intensive Care Unit at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital received an emergency for a 10-year-old girl who suffered oxygen deficiency and cardiac arrest.
The head of ICU, Dr. Hussein Al-Haj, reported that the patient arrived at the hospital with pulmonary hypertension which resulted in severe chronic infection and acute respiratory distress syndrome, in addition to septicemia which led to hypovolemic shock, apnea, and hypoxemia. All of this caused the little girl to suffer cardiac arrest.
Dr. Al-Haj also stated: “We performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation immediately, and put the patient on a ventilator via tracheal tube.”
The patient stayed at the ICU of Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital where Dr. Hayder Adil (pediatrician) and Dr. Hussein Al-Haj followed up on her health condition with the assistance of our expert residents, nursing, and anesthesia staff. The patient’s condition started to improve noticeably.
She was disconnected from the ventilator after the removal of the tracheal tube. The medication doses were lowered through intravenous therapy. When the young patient’s blood pressure returned to normal, the IV fluids were also stopped. The patient was sent to the inpatient ward to complete her treatment and she’s in good health now.
