World Immunization Week (April 24-30)

Immunization: A process where individuals are given specific vaccines against microorganisms causing diseases to stimulate immunity, forming the necessary antibodies to resist diseases they haven’t encountered before.
World Immunization Week (April 24-30) is a week dedicated to the global public health campaign to raise awareness about how to protect and immunize individuals against deadly diseases preventable by vaccines worldwide. This global campaign takes place during the last week of April each year.
Vaccination can protect individuals against 25 different contagious diseases, from childhood to old age, such as diphtheria, measles, whooping cough, polio, tetanus, etc.

Vaccination helps children’s bodies resist diseases and epidemics, attributed to their weakened immune systems against bacteria.
The groups most in need of immunization, after children, are individuals with chronic diseases, immune-related diseases, pregnant women, pilgrims, and the elderly, especially in the case of an outbreak.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that vaccination is effective and can prevent around 2-3 million deaths annually. However, approximately 22.6 million children worldwide are still missing out on essential vaccinations, most of them in developing countries.
Often, the insufficient coverage rates in some developing countries are due to limited resources, competition in health priorities, and poor management of health systems.

Immunization provides economic benefits when applied in society by reducing the costs of treating diseases.
The Iraqi Ministry of Health, in coordination with WHO, places great emphasis on the immunization of all children and other targeted groups against various infectious diseases. As a result of these efforts, the ministry announced no reported cases of polio in Iraq for many years, all praise be to Allah (swt).

Wishing everyone good health and safety.
We hope everyone participates in educational activities to increase awareness and encourage citizens, especially children, to get vaccinated. And spread awareness by using local radio channels, and social media and by engaging with youth groups.

Wishing everyone good health and safety.
