Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital received many cases of patients suffering from chronic illnesses and pain. They underwent pain managment at our hospital.
The hospital’s pain managment consultant, Dr. Reda Muhammad Al-Kaabi, stated that he treated a number of different cases over the past few days, including:
– A 60-year-old patient with chronic diseases and morbid obesity, who had two hernias between the third and fourth vertebra and the fourth and fifth vertebra, was treated through pain management under local anesthesia and using interventional radiology.
– A patient was suffering from a fracture in his arm and was given injection rehabilitation so that he could continue physiotherapy without severe pain, and here pain management has a major role in alleviating this condition.
– A patient suffering from (severe) knee osteoarthritis and chronic diseases. Preparations for the surgery required time, and until the patient was ready, he was afraid and suffering from diseases that prevent performing the surgery, so he took painkillers, which relieved (70-80%) of his pain. Of course, this percentage would’ve been higher if the osteoarthritis was more severe.
– A patient with a herniated disc in the neck underwent vertebral fusion surgery and stabilization of the herniated disc. Unfortunately, the period of relief from pain was only 4 months. The surgery was very successful in terms of surgical performance. Unfortunately, such operations sometimes, due to the body’s response, cause multiple fibroids and adhesions at the site of the operation that affect the patient. The patient received a local fluoroscopy injcetion using an interventional radiology machine and local anesthesia. She’s doing well now.
In detail, Dr. Al-Kaabi stated, “Pain medicine is a branch of medicine that focuses on treating chronic pain. It uses a variety of techniques to mitigate it, including medications, physical therapy and surgical interventions.”
He adds: “Pain medicine has become more important in recent years, as many people suffer from chronic pain, and this pain is often severe and affects quality of life.”
He emphasized that pain medicine is a precise medical specialty. It requires doctors to have extensive knowledge of pain, its causes, and methods of treatment.

P.S: Dr. Reda Muhammad Al-Kaabi works at the consultation clinics at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital every Tuesday from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.
