Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital’s team of anesthesiology came across a medical challenge during a C-section for a 40-year-old patient with a history of heart failure. Obstetrician-gynecologist Zahra Al-Sultani explains: “The patient had undergone cardiac catheterization and received stent placement. She also suffers from hypertension and diabetes.” Dr. Al-Sultani adds: “Normal delivery would’ve been too risky for the mother and her child, taking into consideration that this is her 8th childbirth, so we performed an emergency C-section with the assistance of Dr. Zaid Al-Mosawi, an expert anesthesiologist at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital.”
General anesthesia was administered and the Cesarean delivery was successful. The mother welcomed her newborn daughter in good health, praise be to Allah and the surgical/anesthesia team at IHH.
