The medical team at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital ended the suffering of an infant who was only 20 days old. The little boy weighed 3 kilograms and he had a 2 cm congenital ureteral stricture.

Urologist Ameer Al-Araji explains: “The baby was constantly crying and vomiting, he was agitated since his birth. Medical examinations revealed that he suffers from ureteral stricture which blocked the passage of urine from the kidney to the bladder, and this led to enlargement in his kidney.”

Al-Araji adds: “The parents refused nephrostomy so we decided to perform pyeloplasty to reconnect the kidney to the ureter after removing the narrowed part.”

Anesthesiologist Osama Eissa also commented: “Anesthesia is risky for a patient of such young age because his body weight may lead to complications. Thankfully, we were able to keep the patient in a stable state and his surgery was successful. He was discharged after making a full recovery.”
