Advanced technology at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital, led by urology specialist Dr. Zahraa Dhaher, were able to extract a 6-cm-sized stone from the kidney of a 70-year-old patient.
Dr. Zahraa Dhaher stated: “Using advanced techniques at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital, we removed the stone through a 1-cm incision via ultrasound guidance.”
The urology specialist confirmed that “the patient was suffering from multiple chronic diseases, in addition to being overweight.”
On his part, the anesthesiologist supervising the surgery, Dr. Zaid Muhammad Al-Moussawi, explained that “the biggest challenge in this surgery is anesthetizing the patient, as she suffers from chronic hypertension and diabetes.”
He explains: “She was also suffering from a heart rhythm disorder (atrial fibrillation), so the epidural anesthesia technique was used to ensure the stability of the patient’s vital signs throughout the surgery, which took about 3 hours.”
He adds: “Praise be to Allah, the surgery was successful and the patient was discharged in good health.”
