Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital held a seminar titled “Trans-catheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for the treatment of aortic stenosis”, presented by Dr. Jaffer Ali Syed (Canada). The assisting professor stated: “We held a short seminar today to talk about TAVI, which stands for Trans-catheter Aortic Valve Implantation. This procedure is used to treat aortic stenosis, a progressive condition where the heart valve becomes severely narrow. It used to be treated by open-heart surgery, however, TAVI is done by inserting a catheter through the leg. One of the benefits of TAVI is fast recovery and its and it’s an effective alternative for patients who are at high risk of suffering from complications during other types of surgery.” Dr. Jaffer also added: “We also discussed the technical aspects of TAVI, the typical indicators for surgery, and the potential complications.”
