The medical team at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital received a 16-year-old patient with Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome, a rare inherited condition affecting one out of 300,000 people. It’s characterized by the development of noncancerous growths in the intestines, resulting in blockages, pain, and rectal bleeding.

IHH Media Department stated that: The teenage boy was in a critical condition, suffering from acute abdominal pain, sepsis, and dehydration. He was in a life-threatening state but thankfully the medical team, led by general surgeon Dr. Salah Al-Selaikhi, intervened in time and performed an urgent invasive surgery to open the intestinal blockages. The patient stayed at the ICU for three days under the supervision of Dr. Hussein Al-Hajj (anesthesiologist/intensivist). The patient received treatment for his sepsis and dehydration and was rehabilitated with IV therapy until he regained control of oral feeding under the care of expert health workers.

Dr. Hussein added: “The patient was sent to the inpatient ward to continue treatment. His family expressed their joy and gratitude for the professionalism of the hospital staff in dealing with such rare cases.”
