Nerve stimulation is usually performed with radiofrequency, either by cauterizing the sensory nerves (thermal stimulation) or stimulating the motor and sensory nerves (pulsed stimulation), and this is done by a doctor who specializes in treating pain.

The procedure aims to reduce chronic pain in the back, neck, hip and knee areas that has not improved with medication or physical therapy, or when surgery is not an option.

For example, your doctor may suggest this procedure if you have back pain:

-You feel it on one or both sides of the lower back.
– It spreads to the buttocks and thighs (but not below the knee).
– It worsens when turning or lifting something.
-It improves when lying down.

Pain and intensive care medicine specialist Dr. Reda Muhammad Al-Kaabi is present at the consultation clinic at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital every Tuesday evening (4:00 – 8:00).
