A medical team at Imam AL-Hujjah Hospital successfully treated a “difficult and complicated” case. The 80-year-old woman suffered from a pathological fracture in her left hip joint due to metastatic cancer and other chronic diseases (uncontrolled hypertension and diabetes, lung cancer).
Supervising physician Dr. Haider Daher said the woman suffered from a pathological fracture in her left hip joint. This was caused by bone erosion due to cancer, and she received radiotherapy regularly.
Dr. Daher adds: “The fracture was treated by using an intramedullary lock nail with a wound length of about 2 cm. The whole process of moving the joint was successful and the patient was able to sit down immediately after the surgery.”

He adds: “The next day, the patient was able to move with the help of crutches. The surgery was not easy as the woman suffers from heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension. We chose to use regional anesthesia done by Dr. Abd Al-Ameer Noori. Praise God, the patient was in good health afterward and got discharged. These types of surgeries and similar cases are treated three to five times monthly.

We wish everyone a speedy recovery!
