The medical team at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital, led by Dr. Taktum Al-Erabi, anesthesiologist Dr. Abd Al-Ameer Noori, and anesthetist Ahmed Wasfi, successfully performed a painless normal delivery for a patient in her 30s, using an epidural injection, one of the most common methods of pain relief during labor.
The anesthetic is injected directly into the lower back between the vertebrae, thus numbing the sensory receptors (nerves responsible for labor pain). One of the main benefits of the epidural is that it allows the patient to remain awake and alert during delivery, without experiencing any pain. This is the first time that this type of injection is used in the city of Karbala, and our medical team is ready to receive similar cases at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital.
The obstetrics and gynecology clinic, supervised by Dr. Taktum Sakhar Al-Erabi, receives patients free-of-charge every Tuesday, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
