The surgical team at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital successfully ended the suffering of an 8-year-old boy from the city of Al-Diwaniyah. The child was struggling with primary vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) which is the retrograde flow of urine from the bladder into the kidneys due to an obstruction in the urinary tract. This resulted in damaging the patient’s right kidney and putting the left kidney at risk.

The physician-in-charge, urologist Ameer Al-Araji reported that the little boy was suffering from frequent urinary tract infections, and high creatinine levels, in addition to urinary incontinence that has troubled the patient and his family for years and affected his school life as well as his social life. Al-Araji added: “Using advanced endoscopic technology and laser vaporization, we successfully opened the bladder neck and the patient is currently making a quick recovery.”
