A medical team specialized in obstetrics, gynecology, and general surgery at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital was able to perform a laparoscopic hysterectomy for a 75-year-old patient who was suffering from uterine bleeding and chronic diseases, which increased the difficulty of performing the surgery.
The specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at the Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital, Dr. Taktam Sakhr al-Arabi, stated that
“A medical team was formed consisting of Dr. Zuhair Al-Badr, a general surgery specialist, Dr. Zaid Al-Moussawi, an anesthesia specialist, and I, an obstetrics and gynecology specialist.”
The doctor confirmed that
“The medical team faced a major challenge due to the seriousness of the patient’s health condition, as she was suffering from heart failure, high blood pressure, diabetes, a previous heart attack, and chronic asthma.”
Adding:
“We performed a hysterectomy on the patient using the laparoscopic technique, but her abdomen was not opened, and the patient, praise be to God, is in good health.”
Adding:
“Before that, the patient visited several healthcare centers, but her uterus was not removed due to her poor health condition and the risk of performing the surgery on her.”
For his part, the anesthesiologist at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital, Dr. Zaid al-Moussawi, explained that
“The patient was suffering from a weak heart muscle and difficulty breathing due to asthma.”
He explains:
“I was able to improve her condition after I gave her bronchodilator medications and reduced the fluid in her lungs due to heart failure.”
He adds:
“I faced a great challenge during the patient’s anesthesia because the oxygen level decreased during the surgery and its concentration remained high.”
The anesthesiologist continued:
“Praise be to God, I successfully overcame this challenge and followed up on the patient’s condition and blood pressure after she left the O.R., and her condition was stable.”
