A specialized medical team at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital in Holy Karbala performed a complex cardiac catheterization for a patient suffering from severe chest pain due to acute myocardial infarction.
Dr. Ali Tfaili, a consultant in cardiology and catheter therapy at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital, stated, “The patient came to the hospital and was suffering from severe chest pain. After conducting the necessary tests and monitoring his condition for hours, we discovered that there were numerous blockages in the coronary arteries of the heart, especially the main trunk that feeds 70% of the heart.”
He added, “In this case, open-heart surgery was required, but after consultation with the family, open-heart surgery was rejected, and meshes were used. A therapeutic catheterization procedure was performed with meshes placed on the main trunk of the left descending artery of the heart.”
Dr. Tfaili pointed out “The challenge was that working on this artery is a very delicate procedure, because it may lead to the heart stopping at any moment.”
Dr. Tfaili explained, “The catheterization was completed successfully, and the patient was discharged in good health.”
