Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital admitted a man in his early thirties from the province whose transplanted kidney was at serious risk of loss—an outcome that would have returned him to kidney failure and dialysis—had it not been for the timely and successful medical and surgical intervention carried out by urology specialist Dr. Amir Al-A‘raji.
The patient had a history of kidney failure and had undergone a kidney transplant abroad last year. He later presented to the hospital with a ureteral obstruction affecting the transplanted kidney, accompanied by hydronephrosis and a marked deterioration in kidney function. This condition posed a serious risk of graft loss and a return to dialysis.
Despite the complexity of the patient’s medical condition—particularly his severe hypertension and hepatitis C—this did not deter the hospital’s medical and nursing teams. They promptly initiated a highly precise and complex endoscopic and surgical procedure to relieve the ureteral obstruction of the transplanted kidney. A ureteral stent was placed to ensure the continuous and unobstructed flow of urine from the kidney to the bladder, facilitating safe and effective healing of the ureter.
The operation was successful, with the kidney returning to its normal size and renal function improving to normal levels. The patient was subsequently discharged from the hospital in good health, having made a full recovery.
This achievement underscores the high level of expertise of the medical staff at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital and their ability to manage the most delicate and complex specialized cases in accordance with the highest medical standards.
