The obstetrics-gynecology team at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital successfully diagnosed a rare condition in a 9-month pregnant woman. The patient, who’s in her 20s, visited the hospital complaining of contractions and severe bleeding. Dr. Sundus Karam revealed that the ultrasound results showed that the baby was healthy but the mother was urgently admitted to the surgical theater due to the contractions and bleeding. Dr. Karam added: “We discovered that the umbilical cord was attached to the fetal membrane instead of the placenta which caused the hemorrhage.” Despite this life-threatening condition and the complexity of the C-section, the surgery was successful, and both the mother and her baby are in good health now.
