Our specialized medical staff in Obstetrics and Gynecology at IHH successfully saved the lives of a mother and her child after she experienced “pregnancy poisoning,” which necessitated an emergency cesarean section before the scheduled due date.
Pregnancy poisoning is a condition that affects women only during the pregnancy period. The symptoms are high blood pressure, and swelling of the face, hands, and feet as well as protein in the urine, known as pregnancy-induced proteinuria.
Gynecologist Dr. Taktum Sakhar said: “The patient, a 28-year-old pharmacy graduate, arrived at the hospital in an emergency state on the first day of the seventh month of her full-term pregnancy (28 weeks).”
And she added: “She was experiencing severe bleeding and placental abruption before delivery due to pregnancy-induced hypertension, as she was a primigravida (expecting her first child).”
Taktum also added: “The baby was born premature, 28 weeks and was very small. “However, the specialized medical and nursing staff in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), under the supervision of pediatric specialist Dr. Mazen Qais, succeeded in providing the necessary care for the baby, who was discharged after three days in good health.”
