The surgical team at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital successfully restored a 50-year-old woman’s memory who was suffering from a brain infection that resulted in serious complications.
Neurosurgeon Khattab Al-Khafaji explains: “The emergency department at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital received a case of a woman in her 50s who was suffering from memory loss and lack of focus. White fluids were coming out of her mouth, and she was having seizures and severe headaches.
Al-Khafaji adds: “The emergency doctor and I discussed the patient’s condition, and she underwent a set of laboratory tests. We transferred her to the inpatient ward, and her condition was diagnosed as viral encephalitis, which is a serious disease that leads to death if not detected early.”
He continues: “She was admitted to the ICU where she received the necessary treatment, and she began to respond gradually. On the next day, she regained her memory and began to recognize her family members, so we decided to transfer her from the ICU to the neurological ward. Her health condition, which quickly improved, was monitored round the clock. The patient was discharged after making a full recovery.”
