A medical team at Imam Al-Hujjah Charitable Hospital announced the successful completion of a therapeutic cardiac catheterization procedure performed on a sixty-year-old patient, replacing the need for an “open-heart surgery” after the complete blockage of all coronary arteries.
Dr. Emad Marji, cardiologist, and interventional cardiologist, stated that “a patient in his sixties arrived at the emergency department with severe chest pain and significant changes on the electrocardiogram.”
He adds: “After performing the necessary examinations, an urgent coronary angiography was conducted, revealing blockages in all coronary arteries.”
He adds: “In such a situation, open-heart surgery is usually required, but after consulting with the patient’s family, they refused to allow such surgery. Therefore, the medical team performed a major therapeutic catheterization procedure that lasted for 3 hours and placed 4 stents in the coronary arteries.”
Dr. Marji confirmed that “all the coronary arteries were successfully opened, and the patient was discharged on the second day with an improved condition.”
