The highly-skilled surgical team at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital performed a successful surgery for an 18-day boy from Al-Muthanna province. The infant suffered from severe ureteral obstruction. Urologist Ameer Al-Araji stated: “We admitted the patient for an emergency laparoscopy where we inserted two catheters into the ureters and a urinary catheter to empty the urine from his kidneys. The baby’s renal function returned to normal and his urination improved. Al-Araji revealed that the complexity of this surgery lied in the patient’s young age and the elevation in his creatinine level. Anesthesia was challenging in addition to the unavailability of the laparoscopic set for such a young patient, especially considering his weight (2.5 kgs). Anesthesiologist Abd Al-Ameer Noori succeeded in administering the anesthetic and the rest of the urology team completed the surgery without any complications.
