The surgical team at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital, led by neurosurgeon Dr. Hazim Moojid, performed surgery on a baby, only 6 days old. Dr. Moojid said: “The baby’s condition was diagnosed before his birth. After he was born, it was confirmed that he suffers from congenital meningocele located in the lumbosacral region of the vertebral arches. The sac contains spinal fluid with protruding nerve fibers.”
He added: “We removed the meningocele and repaired the meninges and nerves. The patient was discharged in perfect health after regaining full sensation and movement of his lower limbs and total control of bladder and bowels.”
