The ICU team at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital successfully saved the life of a Turkish old man suffering from subarachnoid hemorrhage due to a falling accident. The bleeding resulted in pressure on the meninges, the thin tissues that cover the brain. He scored 3\/15 on the Glasgow Coma Scale. He underwent a brain CT scan and was admitted to the surgical theater for an emergency blood clot drainage, performed by neurosurgeon Ali Ammer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When the bleeding stopped, the patient was sent to the ICU and intubated. Head of the Intensive Care Department, Dr. Hussein Al-Haj, in addition to Dr. Ali Ammer and a group of highly-qualified resident doctors, nurses, and anesthesia assistants followed up on the patient’s health condition. Ten days later, he was disconnected from the ventilator and the tracheal tube was removed once he was able to rely on spontaneous breathing. The old gentleman became responsive and he scored 10\/13 on the GCS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When his health condition noticeably improved and his GCS score increased to 13\/15, the patient was sent to the inpatient ward to complete his treatment.
