This nerve is responsible for sensation and movement in parts of the hand, particularly the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and a portion of the ring finger.   <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Causes<\/strong><br\/><strong>1. Repetitive strain:<\/strong> Activities such as long hours of typing or frequent use of hand tools.<br\/><strong>2. Injuries:<\/strong> Wrist fractures or inflammation.<br\/><strong>3. Chronic conditions:<\/strong> Diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and hypothyroidism.<br\/><strong>4. Pregnancy:<\/strong> Hormonal changes may cause fluid retention and tissue swelling.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Symptoms<\/strong><br\/><strong>1. Numbness or tingling:<\/strong> Especially in the affected fingers.<br\/><strong>2. Pain:<\/strong> May radiate up to the forearm or shoulder.<br\/><strong>3. Hand weakness:<\/strong> Difficulty gripping objects.<br\/><strong>4. Loss of sensation:<\/strong> If untreated, permanent nerve damage may occur.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Diagnosis<\/strong><br\/><strong>1. Clinical examination:<\/strong> Assessing symptoms and hand movements.<br\/><strong>2. Nerve conduction study:<\/strong> Measures the speed of nerve signals.<br\/><strong>3. X-ray or MRI:<\/strong> To rule out other causes such as fractures.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Treatment<\/strong><br\/><strong>1. Non-surgical options:<\/strong> \u2022 Wearing a night splint to keep the wrist stable.<br\/>\u2022 Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).<br\/>\u2022 Physical therapy and hand exercises.<br\/>\u2022 Corticosteroid injections to reduce inflammation.<br\/><strong>2.
