Endoscopic Gastrostomy for a Woman in Her 70s

The medical team of gastrointestinal surgery, led by Dr. Emad Abd Al-Sahib Gaddoa, at Imam Al-Hujjah Hospital, succeeded in performing a gastrostomy for an elderly woman.

Gastroenterologist Dr. Emad stated that “the 78-year-old patient came to the hospital suffering from brain atrophy due to several strokes which resulted in her inability to swallow and loss of consciousness. This necessitated changing the feeding path from the mouth to the PEG tube in order to push the food.

The doctor continued “we conducted the percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy with the help of the endoscopy team consisting of Nurse Ali Hayal, Nurse Sarah, Nurse Sameer, and anesthesiologist Dr. Mohammed Jadid. The surgery took 20 minutes and it was successful. The patient was in a stable condition.

It’s worth mentioning that Dr. Emad Abd Al-Sahib is available at the gastroenterology consultation clinic on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Our best wishes for your health and wellness
